The three common types of foreign work passes in Singapore are Work Permit, S Pass and Employment Pass. The whole process involves many steps and documents required by the Ministry of Manpower which can be tedious and confusing. The Work Permit allows semi-skilled migrant workers from approved source countries/regions to work in certain sectors such as construction, manufacturing, marine shipyard, process or services sectors.
The S Pass offers flexibility to employers to hire skilled workers (Associate Professionals and Technicians (APTs)) who may not meet the EP criteria, subject to a quota. New candidates need to earn at least $3,150 a month.
The Employment Pass allows foreign professionals, managers and executives to work in Singapore. Candidates need to earn at least $5,000 a month. From 1 Jan 2025, new candidates need to earn at least $5,600 a month.
The Dependant’s Pass allows spouses and children of eligible Employment Pass or S Pass holders to join them in Singapore.
The Work Permit for performing artistes allows foreign performers to work in public entertainment outlets such as bars, hotels and nightclubs.
